Hello All,
Thank you so much for your patience and preparation as we build out this space. I've loved hearing from those of you who are reading the books on the list we provided, and seeking out organizations who can teach us more about the communities we hope to reach. Mass incarceration is a widespread issue, and for as long as we can, we hope to allow those who are directly affected the opportunity to speak on their own behalf, and on behalf of their loved ones. These conversations aren't meant to persuade, distract, or deter. They're meant to let the truth ring free in real time.
Next week we'll be posting our very first talk for Who We Belong To, a discussion between myself and my own formerly incarcerated parent. If you didn't know, my father was incarcerated for nearly thirty years, and during that time, we had limited access to direct communication. I wrote a book that included my experience as the child of person who is incarcerated called, Somebody's Daughter, and you can pick it up wherever books are sold, if that's your thing.
I can't wait to see you all here next week when I'll post part one of my conversation with my dad. Part two will come the week after, and we'll be opening up the options for comments and discussions. In the meantime, check out this conversation between me and Dr. Clint Smith (best-selling author of How The Word is Passed) regarding the costs of prison phone calls, in resources, time, and pain.
See you soon!
